The honor of meeting the esteemed Prof. Biman B. Das, an eminent painter and sculptor

Our group was fortunate enough to have the honor of meeting the esteemed Prof. Biman B. Das, an eminent painter and sculptor who has been recognized for his contributions to the field of art with the prestigious Padma Shri award in 2014. Currently serving as the Chairman of the All India Fine Arts & Craft Society (IFACS) in New Delhi and a former Senior Lecturer at the College of Art in New Delhi, Prof. Das is a true icon in the world of Indian art. During our encounter with him, we were amazed by his vast knowledge and experience in the field, spanning over several decades. Our discussion revolved around a wide range of topics, including his personal journey, current artistic pursuits, and future vision for Indian art both in the country and on a global scale. He regaled us with stories of his travels to over 26 countries and the fascinating commissioned works he has created and installed in prominent places across India and beyond. As we were all associated with the College of Art, Kolkata, our conversation naturally gravitated towards the subject of art, artists, and aesthetics. Prof. Biman B. Das shared with us the details of his first award from the Lalit Kala Academy Punjab, which was an early sign of his future success and achievements in the field. We were joined by another distinguished member, Sh. Param Grewal, a third-generation photographer and a valuable member of the IIP's Governing Council. He shared his own experiences and the rich legacy of his family's contribution to Bollywood. In a gesture of kindness, Prof. Biman B. Das generously gifted us his art catalogs for our library, which was greatly appreciated by all of us. We are excited about the prospect of forging a strong partnership with IFACS and the IIP Institute of Cultural and Creative Arts, and hope to collaborate on future projects. In conclusion, it was an unforgettable experience to spend time with such an accomplished artist and an eminent personality in the Indian art scene. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Biman B. Das for his time and valuable insights, and wish him continued good health and happiness in all his future endeavors.
