Bachelor in Fine Arts - Print Making

4-Year Undergraduate Programme | NEP 2020 Aligned
The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Print Making is a four-year, eight-semester undergraduate degree programme offered by the Faculty of Fine Arts at IIP Academy in academic collaboration with Bareilly International University (BIU). Fully aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, this programme combines rigorous studio practice with critical theory, art history, cultural research, and entrepreneurial skills to produce professional printmakers, visual artists, and creative leaders.

COURSE OVERVIEW

Print Making is one of the oldest and most intellectually demanding disciplines within the visual arts. It encompasses relief printing (woodcut, linocut, wood engraving), intaglio (etching, aquatint, drypoint, mezzotint, viscosity), planographic processes (lithography), and stencil methods (serigraphy/screen printing). The discipline demands mastery of materials, technical precision, conceptual depth, and an understanding of the relationship between image, surface, ink, and paper.

Vision : To establish a nationally and internationally recognised centre of excellence in print making education that nurtures professional artists, critical thinkers, cultural documentarians, and creative entrepreneurs rooted in Indian artistic traditions while engaging with globalcontemporary practice.

Educational Philosophy : The programme is anchored in IIP Academy’s foundational transformation framework:

  • Artistic Thinking - through sustained studio practice across multiple printmaking processes
  • Technical Mastery - through progressive skill-building from foundation to advanced and experimental techniques
  • Cultural Grounding - through research, documentation, and engagement with India’s visual heritage and craft traditions
  • Professional Readiness - through industry exposure, entrepreneurship training, portfolio development, and exhibition practice
  • Critical Inquiry - through art history, aesthetics, visual culture studies, and written/verbal discourse
“Creativity → Confidence → Culture → Career”

The Chair
Archana Goyal
The BFA in Print Making programme is led by Prof. Archana Goyal, who brings over 32 years of professional experience in the visual arts, arts education, and international cultural events to the Faculty of Fine Arts.
Academic Qualification BFA (Specialisation: Applied Arts), College of Art, Delhi - Class of 1994
Postgraduate Degree MFA in Painting
Professional Experience 32+ years in visual arts practice, arts education, and international event curation
Institutional Role Chair & Principal, Faculty of Fine Arts, IIP Academy / Bareilly International University
As an alumna of the College of Art, Delhi - one of India’s most prestigious fine arts institutions, with a historic printmaking department revitalised by Somnath Hore and shaped by Jagmohan Chopra and Anupam Sud - Prof. Goyal brings deep disciplinary knowledge and an authentic connection to the lineage of Indian fine arts education. Her dual specialisation in Applied Arts and Painting provides the interdisciplinary breadth essential for leading a print making programme that bridges traditional craft, studio fine art, and contemporary creative practice.
Her three decades of experience in organising and curating international arts events equips her to build the industry partnerships, exhibition networks, visiting artist programmes, and cultural exchange opportunities that distinguish the Faculty of Fine Arts from conventional academic departments. Under her stewardship, the BFA Print Making programme is designed not merely as a degree but as a launchpad for professional artists, creative entrepreneurs, and cultural leaders.
